This is the story of Tide & Tales- how a little harbourside bistro and bookstore came to be, and the people, meals and moments that continue to shape it.
The house that Tide & Tales calls home is one of the oldest in "the crick". Over the years, it has welcomed countless owners, families, friends, parties and generations through its doors. It has stood through storms, hard Island winters and more stories than we could ever hope to know.
We were lucky enough to find it standing vacant after one of the Island’s most devastating recent storms, Hurricane Fiona. In the spring of 2023, family, friends and local tradespeople worked tirelessly to bring the building back to life.
It began with a shared vision: to create a place filled with lovingly made, Island-inspired food, fresh local ingredients and meaningful connections with other small businesses and people in our community. Alongside the bistro would be a bookstore-a place where anyone could find their next favourite read or discover a story worth sharing with someone they love.
The house has gone from yellow to teal and, finally, to the seaside board-and-batten you see today. But through every coat of paint, the soul of Tide & Tales has remained the same.
Tide & Tales was shaped around a simple belief: sharing stories and spending time with friends, family and community will always be among life’s greatest treasures. Having a place to do that over a cup of coffee, a cinnamon roll or a bowl of chowder will always feel like home to us.
So, whether you’re from away or live just next door, we hope you’ll come in, stay awhile and share your stories with us.
